priority research area: MobilityTech
Scientific achievements
Professor Jacek Sawicki from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Lodz University of Technology is a specialist in materials engineering, advanced material processing and numerical methods in design and manufacturing. His research covers quenching distortion prediction and reduction, expert systems, and mechanical, thermo-chemical and subtractive processing.
His key achievements include research on lightweight functional materials and additive 3D-printing technologies, including TPMS structures. This work supports the design of lightweight, durable and precise components for the automotive, aviation and space sectors.
Research profile and research directions
Professor Sawicki’s research combines materials engineering, numerical modelling, manufacturing technologies, surface-layer treatment and 3D printing. Important areas include dimensional accuracy of metal parts, lightweight structures, functional materials and component durability. His work focuses on manufacturing optimisation and components with a high strength-to-weight ratio.
Cooperation with industry and implementation potential
His achievements have a strong application dimension. He is a co-author of numerous patents, and his solutions have been commercialised as licences and technological implementations. He has cooperated in research and implementation projects funded from national and European sources.
Cooperation with industry also includes LUT spin-offs: Hart-Tech, developing thermo-chemical treatment technologies, and C CUBE P.S.A., active in non-destructive testing of composites.
Distinctions and recognition by the scientific community
For his inventive and implementation activity, Professor Sawicki has received numerous distinctions, including medals and awards at international invention fairs, the Tadeusz Sendzimir SPWiR Honorary Medal, and the honorary badge “For Merits in Inventiveness”. As Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at LUT, he strengthens the university’s position in materials engineering and modern mobility.
